Faculty Services & Instructional Support: Instructional Support

We are dedicated to helping WCU faculty and instructors find resources for their classes and personal research. This guide will highlight resources available through our libraries and show how we can assist you with course offerings.

Instructional Support

Request an Instruction Session

We are happy to visit your class to talk about bibliographic instruction and information literacy.  Each session will include the following three topics:

  • research skills and using databases
  • evaluating sources
  • plagiarism

To schedule an instruction session for your class, fill out the form by choosing the appropriate location:

Request a Guide

Each discipline has a corresponding research guide which includes databases and other library resources useful for its majors.  You may request a course-specific guide designed to meet the unique research needs of a given course.  Course-specific guides are primarily envisioned for graduate-level courses, especially those that focus on systematically building toward the completion of a major project.  Email Dee Lumpkin to request a guide.

To view an example of a course-specific guide, visit http://libguides.wmcarey.edu/mba640.

Course Reserves

You may place personal or library materials on reserve for your classes for a trimester.  Please allow 24 hours for processing.  Unbound materials will be bound by staff and affixed with a barcode.  All Reserves are loaned for 3-hour increments for use within the library.

In compliance with the Fair Use guidelines of the Copyright Act of 1976, Carey University Libraries will remove all photocopied material from Reserves at the end of each trimester.  The same item cannot be put on Reserve for two consecutive terms.  Photocopied materials will be returned to you at the end of the trimester.

To place an item on reserve, fill out the form by choosing the appropriate location:

Library Technology, Services, & Spaces

Technology

There are 30 computers in the Hattiesburg library lab and 9 computers in the Tradition lab available for currently enrolled WCU students.  Each computer has Respondus Lockdown Browswer software installed to allow students to take quizzes through Canvas.  Additionally, we have headphones available for checkout and one portable DVD player (Hattiesburg) which can be used in the library.

Services

A librarian is available on campus in the library from 8am until 10pm Monday - Thursday, and from 8am until 5pm on Friday.  Additionaly, Students may request a personal research consultation by visiting the library's website and choosing the appropriate option if they require individual assistance from a librarian.

Space

The library has a computer lab and a study area with both large and small tables available for student use.  We also have a classroom with dry erase board and projector available.  The lectern accommodates WCU issued laptops.  If you use a personal laptop, you will need to bring your own cord.  The classroom may be requested for library instruction, for your class, or for meetings.  Scheduling is first-come, first-serve with the understanding that occasionally, the room is booked during certain time slots for the entire trimester.

Collection Development

Tell us what you need to support your course curriculum!  If you'd like to suggest a resource for purchase, please fill out the following form:

Keep in mind that we do not purchase required textbooks, rather supplementary materials to support your curriculum goals.  Personal copies of textbooks may be placed on reserve for a trimester if desired.  See instructions under "Instructional Support."
