WCU Academic Integrity Policy

William Carey University seeks to create an environment that encourages continued growth of moral and ethical values, including personal honesty and mutual trust.  The university places high value on academic integrity and regards any act of academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, as a serious offense.  Academic dishonesty is considered unethical and in violation of William Carey University's academic standards and Christian commitment.

Academic Honor Pledge

All students at William Carey University are bound by this pledge:

I promise or affirm that I will not at any time be involved in cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, or any other acts of academic dishonesty as defined by university policy which explains the disciplinary procedure resulting from violations of academic integrity.  I understand that violation of this code will result in penalties, which could include suspension or dismissal from the university.

Interactive Plagiarism Tutorial

Why should you complete the tutorial?

  • If you would like to learn more about what plagiarism is and how to avoid plagiarism in your academic work, this is a great place to start.
  • Important! If your professor has referred you to the library for a plagiarism refresher course as a result of academic dishonesty, this tutorial is part of that process.  However, there is paperwork which must be completed, so be sure to contact a librarian for instructions before you begin.
  • If you are completing this tutorial as part of your assigned coursework, do not contact a librarian for paperwork. 

How long will the tutorial take to complete?

  • The tutorial will take approximately 25-30 minutes to complete.  At the end, if you answer at least 80% of the questions correctly, you'll receive a certificate of completion and have the option to email your results to yourself or a professor.

While helpful for researchers of all levels, this presentation is especially suited for those working at the graduate level.
